Employee comms – Barclays Commercial

Barclays Commercial were looking for multiple hires for their call centre in Gadbrooke Park, Cheshire, and organized an open day to target candidates of all levels.  As they work shift patterns and actively encourage part timers, we targeted the local sixth form colleges, as well as running ads in the local press and online.  Traditionally employee referrals have proved a great source of candidates . So, we also organized a desk drop of a postcard with a fun sized Bounty Bar attached to it and the strap line “If you want a bigger Bounty, refer a friend”.  (With nearly 800 of these distributed, Ocado were a bit bemused at the amount of bags of Bounty Bars we ordered!)

According to the Resourcing Manager, Karryn Brookes, the open day was “without doubt a raving success”. Of the 120 invited to attend (having reviewed the CVs), 113 turned up. Of the 113 they are interviewing 98.  With the variety of jobs they have on offer at their current interview to hire ratio they should take on about 40.

They are particularly pleased as they dislike using agencies.  If they had, the timescales to attract that many applicants would have been around 2 months and this number of hires would have cost at least £50,000. The total time through us from initial ad to open day was 3 weeks, and the cost was £9,844.

To quote Karryn again: “We took feedback at the end, every last bit positive with every person wanting to come and work for us. We have made follow up contact with all and are busy finding them the perfect type of job to interview for. We have wide age range from late teens to early 50s, from first jobbers to senior position seekers. We have even had further success with at least 5 people who came, went home and raved about us to friends & family resulting in referrals from people who don’t even work for us yet! “
